The center was founded in a former brothel by some young people from a local catholic juvenile center that aimed to give faith to a district undermined by poverty and violence. The yellow-painted big house, which since exceeded its catholic origin, was thought like a sun for the neighborhood of Santa Cruz where everyone is welcome and encouraged to contribute a swap system. The multidisciplinary center focuses on community emancipation by art and culture, and works with all ages public, and many schools and gives a special role to senior persons. Since more than 20 years, the Corporación Cultural Nuestra Gente has become a model, well known in all Medellin. The local institution acts for the empowerment of the community with one motto: change only comes from yourself.
